Tiny joys with Domi ☀️

Pt. 1: The best sunset in Adelaide 🌅

Welcome to Tiny joys with Domi. In these tiny blogs I will share some of the simple joys that can make me feel like the happiest person alive just to inspire you to find out what these things might be for you.

I’ll start with one of my all time favourite activities ever: chasing sunsets 🌅 (and occasionally cheat on them with sunrises).

Ever since I moved to Adelaide, I have been overwhelmed by the beauty and greenness of the city. Moving into a shared house in Marino was a cherry on the pie. This suburb is surrounded by the most mindblowingly beautiful and untouched nature you can think of.

AND THE SUNSETS 🤯

It’s paradise for anyone who, like me, likes, no loves, to go on a billion walks every day and chase as many sunrises and sunsets as possible.

So, when I discovered a great walk up the hill to the conservation park of Marino where you can find the Marino Lighthouse, I was hooked. It’s a relatively short loop of about 3k and it takes about an hour to do a full loop with no stops.

Whenever I feel like it, I like to add a little extra to the walk by taking a detour along the rocky beach. I mostly take this detour during an evening walk right before the sun sets. The sunset from the park is just as beautiful as the sunset from Marino Rocks, right underneath the park at the bottom of the hill, just past the train tracks.

I do this walk about 6 times a week and it’s magical every single time (and a good workout for my glutes). And even though this walk is in a fairly suburban area, occasionally see a beautiful male kangaroo or a small kangaroo family hanging out.

This walk encourages me to get out of my head and be in nature without any distractions.

And the best part is, there is hardly anyone there each time I walk this trail. It’s the perfect place for me to be. With the beautiful rolling hills on one side where the sun rises, and the ocean on the other side where it sets.

I can sort my thoughts out, become emotional, let go of frustrations and sadness, and just love life every time I go up there.

It’s a must-do for anyone travelling to Adelaide. It’s a 30-minute train ride (direction: Seaford) from the city and a 45-minute loop from the train station, Marino Rocks. I recommend doing this trail either at sunrise or at sunset and start by walking up to Coolinga Road, taking a right at the end of the street onto Paringa Av. Then take a left and right following Trumara Rd all the way up the hill and enter the park from there. If you do the walk at sunset, you can choose to stay up in the park to watch it or walk down to Marino Rocks to watch the sunset from there. It’s equally magical.

So, there you go.

A real hidden gem in Adelaide.

Please do treat this place with love, care, and respect as it is so precious! 💛

See you next time!
